Modules for Policy Ownership

January 7th, 2009

For those who are interested in Mozilla govenance, I’ve proposed an Activities Module for ownership of key Mozilla policies. The proposal is in the mozilla.governance newsgroup, which can also be accessed via Google Groups.

    Hi Mitchell,

I heard you speak at Stanford (/iTunes) about Firefox and the Open Source development culture; it was impressive. I am currently doing an internship at a telecom company and am surprised to see how little collaboration goes on here, in comparison to what you described in Mozilla’s case. That, in fact, brought me here.

In the presentation you said a lot about encouraging people to contribute to the community built around the idea of benefiting the world of internet. Although we cannot quite shape the same community around here, there are a lot of people who’d be happy to work on a problem, provided they get organized, and that’s what I am trying to figure out. Would you be able to share with me what tools you are using at Mozilla to coordinate all these thousands of developer, as well as what I assume to be a number of concurrent development projects?

There are various project management tools and social tools here, but I don’t think they actually work. Of course building a community cannot start with a tool, but a good toolbox could help.

    Thank you in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Kirill
